1.Meeting opened by Richard Keeling:- Thanked everyone for their attendance.
2. Guest Speakers - Matthew Hawks & Ann Murray, HMRC. They spoke on a variety of tax & VAT related matters. They highlighted the provision of free courses offered at local tax offices on a host of subjects. The HMRC can be contacted on 0845 010 9000 or at hmrc.gov.uk (I also collected a pile of information leaflets on the night - if any one wants one, give me call - 854611 or kate@heathside.com)
3.Guest Speaker- Darren LeMarquand ( Chudleigh Scout Troop). The Scout Group has now received planning permission for their new HQ and has most of the funding in place but still need to raise C£20k to release a lot of this funding. Lord Clifford (president of Teignbridge Scouts) highlighted the fact that this area has the fastest growing membership increase in the UK - so new facilities to replace the existing hut built in the 1950s is essential to cater for the +100 members who use it weekly. Anyone able to help can contact Darren at d.lemarquand@sky.com. P.S. All donors will have a plaque mounted on the new HQ remembering their help. (See full details of the appeal in separate news article posted today.)
4.Appologies: Gary Mann, Gill Ogden, Ron Owen, Sharon Cook, Sally Priestly & Simon Boot, Eddie & Jo Haws, Derek Clark, Kevin Fuller
5.Chudleigh Produce Market Richard Keeling issued the following statement on behalf of the Guild Committee:
There’s been a lot of discussion recently, some of it rather heated, about the proposed Produce Market. There also appears to be a perception that the Chudleigh Business Guild is spearheading the initiative without taking into account the views of its members. On behalf of the Business Guild committee I want to emphasise a few things. Firstly we support the principle of a produce market, recognising it is one of the outcomes of the questionnaire circulated to all homes as part of the Parish Plan project and believing it can be of benefit to the residents of the town. Secondly, it is important that any such market enhances the retail services of the town, and is not detrimental to the current retail base. The Business Guild will remain involved in the planning and organisation of the market in order to represent the interests of its members.
6.Revised Guild Rules- These were presented by Kate McCormick and passed unanimously.
7.Late Night Shopping Update. Jane McCabe asked for additional help in organising the event. Anyone with ideas for a celebrity to turn the lights on will be greatly received. The Guild Calendar is currently with the printers, we will be organising a launch party in October date TBC. Pre orders are currently being taken by Jane for the calenders which are priced @ £4.99 each. If anyone can help meetings are held in the Bishop Lacey at 7.30 on a Monday evening - contact Jane at janemccabe@tiscali.co.uk
8.Statement by Richard Keeling (Guild Chair) He announced that due to work commitments & work with the Parish Council he is stepping down from his position as Guild Chair. He urged the Committee and Guild members to work with the Town Council and Parish Implementation Group to take Chudleigh to greater heights.
Stephen Biggs agreed to take over unless anyone would like to undertake the job. This was passed unanimously. IF ANY MEMBER WOULD LIKE TO UNDERTAKE THE POSTION PLEASE CONTACT ANY COMMITTEE MEMBER
9.A.O.B. Alan Brunton from Chudleigh History Group is looking for sponsors to fund monthly rentals for a Heritage & Information Centre which he hopes the Town Council will agree to locate in a portacabin behind the Town Hall.
