Firstly let me introduce myself., my name is Derek Clark, I am a local lad living all my life in the very local area , growing up and going to primary school in Heathfield, and then Secondary School at Ashburton, (or South Dartmoor as it is known know). Further education was taken at Torquay Technical college were i studied to become a Motor Engineer, passing my city and guilds exams back in 1973.
I served what was then a 5 year apprenticeship with Wadham Stringers Newton Abbot who were the local British Leyland dealer. I then worked for a local car dealer John Elmore (Newton Car sales), and then AJ Blacklers at Newton Abbot (Renault Dealer).
In 1985 I took the jump and became self employed and bought the Two Mile Oak Garage with a partner on the Totnes road. There we had a full garage business including Car sales, petrol sales, body shop, assecesory shop ect. In 1990 life took an unexpected turn and I moved back to Heathfield.
In 1991 I moved to Chudleigh after I met my wife Rose and started working from home, it soon became apparent that I needed to find some were to move to with larger premises and with more facilities, as luck would have it I was able to find premises in Parrs lane not very far from were I live. I have been there ever since.
In 1993 I established SLJ Auto Services., Parrs Lane Chudleigh. ( www.sljautos.co.uk ). Here we have full garage Facilities including car sales. We have recently become part of the national good garage scheme. ( www.goodgaragescheme.com ).
I have built my business on being fair and realistic with my customers giving them good value for money and service, being polite and courteous at all times. I have always said that if you are happy with my services tell others if not please do not hesitate to tell me. I am proud to say that a lot of my business has been generated from word of mouth. I have a very hand on approach to all work that is carried out at my premises in Parrs Lane.
My team include one Vehicle Technician, Andy. one Motor Mechanic Chris. One Car Velater Paul, a young lady that looks after my office on a Thursday Charlie (Charlotte), and also my wife Rose, and step daughter and step son Jess and Tom. All of whom would be glad to see you and discuss any requirements you may need within our industry.
